I’ve been interested in nutrition since highschool, although that didn’t stop me from eating lots of my mom’s homemade oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. I was a bit overweight in University, then started to gain more while working at a stressful job. When I got pregnant my doctor said I should only gain 25lbs but oops, I gained 40lbs. That was despite walking briskly for exercise almost everyday and eating lots of fruit and vegetables. I lost most of that weight, and then gained another 44lbs with my second daughter (oops). I wish I knew then that I had blood sugar “issues” and that I was intolerant to dairy. I’m sure the milk, yogurt and ice cream I had everyday while pregnant and breastfeeding went straight to my fat stores.
But then I changed! Lost the baby weight and 40lbs more. Felt wonderful. Needed less sleep. I was a convert! I kept the weight off from 2003 until 2007, sharing with friends and then clients to help them too. Unfortunately when the stress started peaking in my life, I returned to my old friend chocolate to ease the pain. Emotional eating, cortisol and negative thinking resulted in a gradual gain of 50lbs over several years. Since I don’t want to buy plus size clothing again and I want to be a good role model for my children, I’m using this blog to keep my focus on health and hopefully inspiring others to do so as well. Join me in the quest for health and happiness!
